AIKEN, SC- BRENDA DOUGLAS,70, beloved wife of Charles "Curly" Douglas, passed away on June 01, 2012 at her residence.
Brenda was born in Georgetown, SC and the daughter of the late Ray Herman and Laura Belle Watts Simmons. She was a resident of Aiken, SC for 66 years and attended St. Thaddeus Episcopal Church. Brenda retired from the State of South Carolina as a certified court reporter for over 40 years and continued afterwards to report for Richmond County courts in Georgia. She was an active member of the Aiken and North Augusta Artist Guilds. Her passion for painting and photography were driven by her desire to capture the beauty of unusual people and places as God touched her heart in the moment. Her artwork won various awards and was exhibited both locally and statewide. Brenda loved to travel both locally and abroad. She was a longtime member of The Daughters of The King and the National Stenomask Verbatim Reporters Association. She was a loving mother, wife, grandmother and friend and will be greatly missed.
Survivors include her husband Charles "Curly" Douglas; daughters, Carla Raye Wingard (Charles) Saunders of Aiken, SC, Kirsten Wingard (Mitchell) Collins, Aiken, SC; son, Donnie Alan (Alyssa) Wingard, Mount Pleasant, SC; step- daughter, Brandy Douglas, Augusta, GA; step-son, Brandon Douglas, Augusta, GA; grandchildren, Clarke (Jakkie) Saunders, Chandler Saunders, Ainsley Wingard, Amelia Wingard, and Mason Delaney Collins; and a special great- grandchild, Patrick Tate Saunders; sisters, Cassandra Greene, MI, Donna Sue Morris, Beech Island, SC, and Marsha Kay Talbot, Martinsville, VA. She is also survived by numerous special nieces and nephews.
A visitation will be held on Sunday, June 3, 2012 from 6- 8 PM at Shellhouse- Rivers Funeral Home.
Funeral services will be held Monday, June 4, 2012 at Saint Thaddeus Episcopal Church at 1:00 PM with the Reverend Grant Wiseman and Deacon Jane Hostetter officiating. Interment will follow in the Saint Thaddeus Episcopal Church Cemetery. Honorary Pallbearers will be members of the Aiken and North Augusta Artist Guilds. The family will receive friends following the service in the Stevenson McClelland Building at the church.
