NEW ELLENTON, SC -- Christopher Loud died peacefully Sunday, June 3, 2012. He fought the evil cancer beast with courage, dignity and his wonderful sense of humor throughout his illness.
Chris was born in Newton, MA on May 2, 1949, son of the late Clarence “Bill” and Gwendolyn (Downey) Loud.
He also enjoyed a close relationship with his stepfather, the late Douglas Ross.
Chris was a loving father to his only child, Christina.
After spending most of his childhood in Kingston, NH he went on to graduate from The Admiral Farragut Military Academy in St. Petersburg, FL. He also attended The Maine Maritime Academy in Castine, ME.
Chris worked in several aspects of the construction trades, and started his own welding business in 1982. He worked on many projects in the NH and MA area before moving to South Carolina in 2002.
He took great pride in the jobs he worked on in the Aiken area: Millbrook Baptist Church, USCA Convocation Center, Fort Gordon and Fort Jackson.
A dedicated and fearless worker, Chris never hesitated to jump in to make sure the job was done right. Anyone who admires the cross on The Millbrook Baptist Church can appreciate he was the one who went up in a crane to straighten it after it had been installed crookedly.
When he wasn’t working, Chris enjoyed fishing, riding his 1967 Harley, taking his 1938 Chevy Hot Rod to car shows and racing his dragster at Carolina Dragway in Jackson, SC. He was a proud sponsor at the Dragway for many years.
Chris also supported the STAR Therapeutic Horseback Riding program in Aiken, SC, sponsoring students, helping with fundraisers and assisting students in classes.
Chris will be missed and lovingly remembered by his long time companion Kerri Creamer of New Ellenton, SC, his daughter Christina (Marshall) Dow and son in law Matt Dow of Manchester, NH, his sister Susan (Loud) Kitchin of Charlottesville, VA, and Christina’s mother Elizabeth Marshall of Rowley, MA.
Chris’ dogs, Dylan, Hunter and Jesse, who loved him unconditionally as only dogs can, and stood by him throughout his illness, are very sad that their “dad” and playmate is gone.
As a dedicated animal lover Chris would like friends to remember him with donations to STAR Riding Inc. PO Box 698 Aiken, SC 29802 or Friends of The Animal Shelter (FOTAS) 828 Richland Ave. W. Aiken, SC 29801.
Friends are invited to attend a casual celebration of his life at Shellhouse-Rivers Funeral Home 715 East Pine Log Rd. Aiken, SC on Saturday, June 9, 2012 from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM
Classic cars and motorcycles welcome, t shirts and jeans preferred attire.
