AIKEN, SC - William E. Reid (Bill), age 67, of Aiken, South Carolina, formerly of Louisville, Colorado, died peacefully on June 15, 2012, in his home surrounded by his family.
He was the son of William E. and Elizabeth A. Reid of Chadds Ford, Pennsylvania. He married Isabel Grant in Chadds Ford in August 1970 and they moved to Colorado, where they lived for over 30 years.
Between 1973 and 1975 he and Isabel travelled extensively in Africa, which was one of the highlights of his life. One of his great memories was climbing the Ngorongoro volcano at night with Isabel to photograph the lava lake inside the crater.
Bill worked as a director of operations and production management at Micro Motion in Boulder, Colorado for 20 years.
Amateur geologist and naturalist, master clockmaker, and craftsman in wood and metal, Bill was a man of many talents and accomplishments. He shared his knowledge and enthusiasm with everyone he met, with a wry wit and a kindness that showed in his smile. He will be sadly missed.
He is survived by his wife Isabel, his daughter Rachel Gray and her husband Alistair of Edinburgh, Scotland and his brothers Brett J. and Kent S. Reid of Pennsylvania.
Interment will be private.
