William J. Gagnon, Sr.

May 23, 1928 — July 2, 2012

AIKEN, SC - WILLIAM JOSEPH "BILL" GAGNON, SR., 84, beloved husband of Peggy Owen Gagnon, died Monday, July 2, 2012 at his residence after a lingering illness. A native of North Adams, MA, Mr. Gagnon was a son of the late Leo Christopher and Agnes Julia Reardon Gagnon. He proudly served his country as a Staff Sergeant in the Air Force during the Korean Conflict. Bill graduated from Northwestern University with a BA in Engineering and Management. He spent most of his career as a senior quality assurance engineer at General Dynamics / Electric Boat Division in Groton, CT, Gilbert - Commonwealth in Reading, PA and at Westinghouse, Savannah River Site in Aiken, SC. Bill had lived in Aiken since 1991 and was a member of St. John's United Methodist Church. Survivors, in addition to his wife Peggy, include a son, William Joseph (Holly) Gagnon, Jr., Ledyard, CT; a daughter, Kathryn Ann (David) Rosenberg, Pawcatuck, CT; two step-daughters, Cindy (Mark) Cox, Aiken, SC, and Lisa (Travis) Fountain, Aiken, SC; six grandchildren, Lauren Swepson, Austin Rosenberg, Andrew Rosenberg, Zachery Gagnon, Bethany Gagnon, and Riley Gagnon; five step- grandchildren, Laura Cox, Aiken, SC, Leigh Ann Cox, Aiken, SC, Thomas (Emily) Glover, New Ellenton, SC and Adam Glover, Orlando, FL; a great-grandchild, Matayo Swepson and Kayleigh Glover; and a sister, Mary Joan Vigiard, Adams, MA. A Memorial Service will be held at 10 AM Saturday at Shellhouse - Rivers Funeral Home with Chaplain Mark Hudson officiating. The family will receive friends following the service. Memorial contributions may be made to research for people with P.K.U. (Phenylketonuria), which is a generic birth defect that prevents the body from processing protein foods.
