AIKEN – Mr. Elbert “Bert” Smith Freeman, 68, died Thursday, July 12, 2012.
A graveside service will be held at 3:00 PM Wednesday, July 18, 2012 in Aiken Memorial Gardens. Honorary pallbearers will be Officers with the Aiken County Sheriffs Office.
Mr. Freeman was born in Charleston County, SC, a son of the late Eddie Lionel and Erma Smith Freeman. He had been a resident of Aiken since 1963, and had retired from Southern Railroad. He also worked as a dispatcher for the Aiken County Sheriff’s Office and served as a Bailiff at the Aiken County Courthouse. He was a volunteer Fire Chief for the Eureka Fire Department for seven years.
He is survived by his deceased wife's daughter, Mary Kime, Clearwater, SC; two grandsons, Chris Wade, Aiken, Adam Kime, Aiken; two great grandchildren, a sister, Joyce E. Freeman, Aiken; two brothers, Eddie L. (Jan) Freeman, Jr., Chicago, IL, Richard (Valerie) Freeman, Aiken; nieces and nephews, Linda F. Forment, Mark, Danielle, Richard, Robert and Ryan Freeman.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Lorraine Freeman.
