Elnora Pender Hair

AIKEN - Mrs. Elnora Pender Hair, 88, died Friday, July 13, 2012, at her residence in Aiken, SC. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM Monday in the Shellhouse Funeral Home Chapel, 924 Hayne Avenue, Aiken, with the Reverend Jerry T. Matthews officiating . Interment will follow in Historic Bethany Cemetery, Aiken. The family will receive friends beginning at 10:00 AM until the time of the service. Born September 9, 1923, in Williston, SC, Mrs. Hair was the daughter of the late Thomas Raymond Pender and Leila Pender. She was predeceased by her husband, Judge Carl Mabeary Hair, who died in 1984. Mrs. Hair attended Lander College and was employed by the Augusta Arsenal, the Medical College of Georgia, and the Savannah River Plant. She was a volunteer with the American Red Cross and loved traveling, reading, and crosswords. She was a member of First Baptist Church of North Augusta, where she was secretary of her Sunday School class. Survivors include her sister, Mary Lee Meder of Temple Terrace, FL; daughter Marcia H. Watkins (John) of Columbia, SC; son Carl M. Hair, Jr. (Rosalyn) of Atlanta, GA; son Thomas E. Hair (Donna) of Graniteville, SC; five grandchildren, John Watkins, Jr. (Nancy Pope) of Columbia, SC; Dr. Clark Hair (Dr. Amy Hair) of Houston, TX; Jason Watkins (Katy) of Columbia, SC; Brandon Hair (Julie) of Greenville, SC; Sara Hair of Graniteville, SC, and numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by two brothers, Murray Pender of Arlington, VA, and David Pender of Columbia, SC. The family would like to give special thanks to her caregivers, Carol Brantley Marchant, Julie Harris, and Susan Hayes, and to United Hospice of Aiken.
