AIKEN-William Carl Crosby, 88, died Tuesday, July 17, 2012 at Azalea Woods Nursing Home. A native South Carolinian, born in Orangeburg, SC, he was the son of Charles Wesley and Clara Hearn Crosby.
Funeral service will be held at 10am on Thursday, July 19 at St. John's United Methodist Church with the Rev Dr. George Howle officiating. Private interment will follow at Crescent Hill Cemetery.
Preceding him in death in addition to his parents were two brothers, Charles Wesley Crosby, Jr. and Thomas Edward Crosby. Surviving him is one brother, Ronald Crosby (Emily) of Irmo, South Carolina, and a number of loved nieces and nephews.
Carl started his dance studio above Aiken Drug in 1954. For 58 years he taught dance to people of all ages and is remembered fondly by his students.
Carl established Aiken Civic Ballet Company in 1971, which is still the longest running Civic Ballet in South Carolina.
