Carl Bloss

November 15, 1925 — July 17, 2012

Carl Raymond Bloss, 86, died Tuesday, July 17 after a 20 year battle with Parkinson's disease. Born in Huntington, WV, he was the son of the late Garland and Naomi Bloss. He was the beloved husband of Virginia Holley Bloss sharing a wonderful, loving 66 year marriage. Survivors, in addition to his wife, include his son Steve (Jeanette) Bloss, Blythewood, SC, his daughter, Sharon Rains, Charleston, SC; grandchildren Jeffrey (Kim) Malmgren, Holley Bloss and Leslie Bloss; great grandchildren: Tyler Malmgren, Kayla Malmgren and Lauren Bloss; three brothers: Donald Bloss, Port Richie, FL, William Bloss, Waverly, OH and Gary Bloss, Parkersburg, WV. Carl's friends knew him to be fiercely loyal, principled, very hard working and fun loving. He lived as an example to his family encouraging them to be successful and enjoy happy lives. He learned to love the outdoors from his father who taught Carl and his three brothers to respect nature and allow others to have their own space in the woods or on the trout stream. Carl passed along his love and respect of nature to his family. Among his most enjoyable outdoor times were trips to Pawleys Island, where hours of shrimping occupied warm fall and summer days. Over 40 years he enjoyed trout fishing and camping with a group of friends on the Chatooga River. Carl began his work life as a 17 year old volunteer for the Army during WWII. He served in the Army Air Corp as a tail gunner on a B 17, and flew on 17 missions over enemy airspace. After the war he worked at E. I. duPont, in Belle, WV, transferring to SRP in 1951. He retired after 39 years and enjoyed a long and busy retirement. He was mechanically inclined and could fix anything, given the time to do the job right. The body will be cremated with private family gatherings later. The family would like to thank faithful caregivers Lena Corbitt, Elizabeth Rosenow, Teresa McGahee, Gisela Smith, Freida Thomas Jim Kannenberg and David Blow for their loving care and support.
