AIKEN – Mrs. Jane Kirkland Talbert, 78, died Tuesday, July 17, 2012. A celebration of her life will be held at 11:00 AM Saturday at Aiken's First Baptist Church with the Reverend Dr. Fred W. Andrea, III officiating. Interment will be held privately in the historic Bethany Cemetery. Following the memorial service, the family will receive friends in the church fellowship hall. Honorary pallbearers will be Tommy Sessions, Jim Patterson, Tommy Butler, Walker Crosby, Dick Louthan, Bruce Myers, Dr. Bill Besson and the First Baptist Church Kitchen Ladies. Mrs. Talbert, the daughter of the late Arnold and Dorothy Carringer Kirkland, was born on December 31, 1933, in Shreveport, LA. She was a 1955 graduate of Baylor University where she was a life member of the Baylor Alumni Association. With her husband and young family, she moved to Aiken in 1960. Ms. Talbert taught first grade for 30 years for Aiken County Schools and was an active member of Delta Kappa Gamma, an international women's educational society. A long-time member of Aiken's First Baptist Church, she served as a church hostess for 26 years, as a deacon, and on numerous committees for the church she so loved. Survivors include her daughter, Leslie Talbert (Dale) Key, Wilmington, NC; two sons, Dr. Robert W. (Gigi) Talbert, Aiken, Benjamin M. (Nancy) Talbert, Marion, NC; five grandchildren, Rachel Talbert (Bradley) Rouse, John Carringer Talbert, Walker Good (Katie) Talbert, Laura Kathrine Key, Elizabeth Aileen Key; a great granddaughter, Annabelle Morgan Rouse; a sister-in-law, June Kirkland, Shreveport, LA; brother-in-law, Reverend Grover C. (Wegi) Talbert, Jr., Huntsville, TX; and Tom (Frances)Webb, Rock Hill, SC, whom she loved like one of her children. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Dr. Robert Elliot Talbert, whom she met at the Ridgecrest Baptist Assembly in Ridgecrest, NC, and an infant grandson, Joseph Alan Talbert.
