James Leroy "Roy" Shull

James LeRoy “Roy” Shull AIKEN, SC- JAMES LEROY "ROY" SHULL, passed away on Friday, July 27, 2012. Funeral services will be held at South Aiken Presbyterian Church on Monday, July 30, 2012 at 11:15 AM. The Family will receive friends at the church One hour prior to the service. Burial will follow the service at Bethany Cemetery with Military honors, a Bagpipe and drum processional and Masonic Rites. Born January 12th, 1921 in Miami Fla., son of the late Jasper LeRoy Shull and Florence Lila Breso Shull. He served in WWII, The Big Red One, earning numerous metals including 2 Purple Hearts. It was while he served in North Africa, part of the First American Infantry Division and the 16th regiment, which became part of the 51st Highland English Division, that he was taught to play the bagpipes, by a Scot while he lay in bed for 3 months wounded from battle. His service during the war also took him to England, Algeria, Italy, Sicily, Scotland and Tanzania. After the war, he returned to Miami, Florida and worked for his father at Rogers Auto Parts until he joined the Metro-Dade Police Department serving 26 years. During his time on the police department he earned many honorable awards for his service. He also played the bagpipes at the funerals of the fallen officers and firefighters. Aiken being the birthplace of his wife, they moved from Miami Springs, Fla. to Aiken in 1983. His Services and Memberships included the Miami Allapattah Masonic Lodge No. 271, the Miami Drum and Bugle Corp. Band, a piper in the St Andrews Bagpipe Band, Shriner in the Mahi Temple, Scottish Rites, American Legion, the VFW, owned and operated the “Super Keen Sharpening Shop” and a member of the South Aiken Presbyterian Church. He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Frances Warneke Shull, daughters Linda S. Abee (Rodney); Patricia Susan Parke (Dave); Barbara Ann Rebelo (John); son Joseph LeRoy Shull (Mary Ann) and daughter Betty Ann Demopoulas. Nine Grandchildren and sixteen Great-Grandchildren. Brother by Choice, Raymond August Haar. Roy enjoyed Hunting, Fishing, Gardening, and Cooking. He loved his country, his family, and his friends, his laughter and sense of humor will be missed by all who knew him.
