AIKEN, SC - KURT RUDOLPH RECK, 94, died, Monday, August 6, 2012 at HarborChase of Aiken.
Born in Nuremberg, Germany, he was a son of the late Robert and Marie Reck. He grew up and was educated in Nuremberg and was trained in engineering and metalwork. Kurt was drafted in 1938 into labor services and then into the Air Force in the anti-aircraft division during World War II. He was married to Hanneliese in 1945 just before the end of the war.
After the war, Kurt worked for the Office of Chief Council for War Crimes and was involved in the Nuremberg Trials, and later worked as chief of the Statistical Information Section of the U.S. Army Headquarters of the European Exchange System.
Kurt and Hanneliese moved to the United States in 1954 and lived in Milwaukee before moving to Connecticut to work for General Dynamics / Electric Boat, working on a top secret project under President Johnson. He later moved to Gaithersburg, MD to work for Bechtel Corp. for many years until his retirement in 1984.
After retirement Kurt and his wife moved to Florida where he lived until moving to Aiken in 2007.
Survivors include two sons, Peter Kurt Reck (Doreen), Chardon, OH and Walter Kurt Reck (Susan), Aiken, SC; four grandchildren, Sydney, Sean, Kurtis and Nicholas and a niece Ursula Gust (Carl) in Germany. He was preceeded in death by his beloved wife, Hanneliese and his twin sister, Hilde
A memorial service will be held Thursday, August 9, 2012 at 2:00 PM at Shellhouse - Rivers Funeral Home with Pastor Phillip Lee officiating. The family will receive friends following the service.
