John Calvin Brunson

Aiken-John Calvin Brunson, loving husband of Millie Brunson, died Thursday, August 9, 2012, at Aiken Regional Medical Centers. Funeral Services will be held Sunday August 12, 3 P.M. at Shellhouse Funeral Home with the Rev. Ken McDonald officiating. Interment will follow in Warrenville Cemetery. Mr. Brunson was born Nov. 11, 1925 in Jackson Baptist Church Community, near Sylvania, GA and lived there until 1939, when his family moved to Savannah, Ga. He served in the US Navy from 1943 until 1946. He reenlisted in the Navy in 1950 until 1954, serving on the staff of Commander of Carrier, Division 6, serving 4 tours of duty in the Atlantic and Mediterranean areas. Upon discharge he married Eloise Cook Grizzard, who preceeded him in death after 44 years of marriage. He worked as a builder in the Savannah and Aiken areas in residential and commercial building. He played a very responsible role in construction of Woodside Executive Park and two Aiken National Bank buildings. He married Mildred Edward Hicks in 1999. Besides his wife, he is survived by a sister, Harriet (Ernest) Lynch, nieces, nephews and grandchildren.
