AIKEN, SC - A memorial service for Mrs. Sandra Plyler Cantwell, wife of John Walter Cantwell, will be held at 3:00 PM on Monday, September 3, 2012, at St. John’s United Methodist Church with The Rev. Dr. George Howle officiating.
Mrs. Cantwell, 63, of Aiken, SC, died on September 1, 2012, at home after an extended illness. The daughter of Mary Hagins Plyler and the late John Chalmers Plyler, she was born in Lancaster, SC.
She received an undergraduate degree in English Education and a Master’s Degree in Guidance and Counseling from the University of South Carolina. After marrying in 1974, she moved to Aiken and worked in the Aiken County School system until her retirement in 2006. She was an active member of St. John’s United Methodist Church where she founded the Prayer Shawl Ministry and co-founded the Growing Christians Sunday School Class.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by two children Laura Cantwell of Tallahassee, FL, and Rev. Walter Cantwell of Mount Pleasant, SC; a brother John Plyler (Anne) of Lancaster, SC; two sisters Jan Baskins (Larry) of Ridgeway, SC and Carole Bundy (Charles) of Irmo, SC; brother-in-law Clifton Rodgers (Patricia) of Williston, SC; nieces and nephews Michael Plyler (Kristin) of Columbia, SC, David Baker of Los Angeles, California, Paul Baker (Tonya) of Columbia, SC, Elizabeth (Daniel) Ruczko of Lexington, SC, Kathryn Bundy of Raleigh, NC, McCuller Rodgers of Williston, SC, Tradd Rodgers (Andrea) of Orangeburg, SC; great niece Morgan Rodgers and great nephews Bret Rodgers of Orangeburg, SC and Chalmers Baker of Columbia, SC.
