AIKEN, SC - MR. BRUCE RYDER, 78, died on Tuesday, September 4, 2012 at Aiken Regional Medical Centers. Mr. Ryder was born in Cleveland, Ohio and was a son of the late Harold and Elizabeth Peters Ryder. He proudly served his country in the United States Air Force and attended college at Georgia Tech. Bruce lived in Aiken since 1959 and was retired from the Federal Aviation Administration. He was a member of Town Creek Baptist Church and enjoyed bowling and model trains. He is survived by his wife, Mavis Barefoot Ryder; two sons, Ken (Karen) Ryder, Burnsville, NC and Alan (Terri) Ryder, Aiken, SC; 4 grandchildren, Angela Ryder Thomas, Ella Ryder, Brooke Ryder and Rebecca Ryder; 3 great-grandchildren, Lauren Evensen, Zach Thomas and Kayla Thomas; two sisters, Jacklyn (James) White, Shannon, GA and Judy (Steve) Stroud, Dallas, GA and several nieces and nephews. Mr. Ryder was preceded in death by his parents, and a sister, Joyce Strickland. The family will receive friends Thursday evening from 6 until 8 PM at Shellhouse-Rivers Funeral Home. Funeral Services will be held at 11 AM Friday, September 7, 2012 at Town Creek Baptist Church with the Revs. Clint Smith and Don Lemon officiating. Interment will follow in Aiken Memorial Gardens. Pallbearers will be Jeff Collins, Gene Norris, Rich Barefoot, Donald Baxley, Bill Johnson , David Vickery and Greg Ross. Honorary pallbearers will be the Thursday Morning Bible Study Group and the Bernard Rowland Sunday School Class.
