Aiken-Gerald Edward Brown Sr., 84, husband of his loving wife of 67 years, Mary Atkins Brown, went to be with his Lord on Sunday, Sept. 9, 2012.
Mr. Brown was preceded in death by his parents Rev. Albert & Gertrude Brown, his son, Gerald Edward Brown Jr. “Sonny”, brothers Edgar and Leland Brown; sisters, Elmer Burrell, Jewel McClain, Gladys Shirley.
Gerald loved his family, church, fishing and spending time at Lake Murray. He was an avid fan of Clemson football, for which he traveled to all of the Tigers’ home and bowl games including their National Championship game. Gerald retired from Owens Corning Fiberglass after more than 30 years of service. After retirement he spent time traveling the U.S. and seeing National Parks and special areas of interest.
He is survived by his children, Steve Brown, (Addie) of Aiken, SC, Bruce Brown, (Pat) of Belvedere, SC, Mary Inabinet, (Andy), Seneca, SC, William Brown, (Billie Jo), Patricia Moseley, (Glen), Sara Moseley, (JB), all of Aiken, SC, Arney Welmaker, (Emily) Pendleton, SC and a brother Harold James Brown, (June), of Anderson, SC. He was “PaPa” to his beloved 14 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren.
Gerald was an active member of Lighthouse Baptist Church in Aiken, SC where he served in the choir and taught Adult Sunday school class.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 13, at Lighthouse Baptist Church, 2150 Columbia Hwy. N., Aiken, SC 29805, with the Rev. Marion Britton, Rev. George Webb, and Rev. Eric Kincaid officiating. Interment will follow in the Shiloh Baptist Church Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Josh Baggott, Will Brown, James Busbee, Tyler Haywood, Tommy Holley, Brad Moseley, Jacob Moseley, and Brandon Vaught. Honorary pallbearers will be Lighthouse Baptist Church Senior Men’s Sunday school class.
