WILLISTON, SC - MR. ROBERT J. "BOB" BURNS, 77, of Williston, SC passed away Monday, September 10, 2012 at home. Bob was born November 5, 1934 in Buffalo, NY to the late John V. Burns and Agnes E. Burns. Bob grew up in Rochester, NY where he entered the army at 17 years of age and served more than 20 years, retiring in 1972 at the grade of 1SG. In 1972, he became a member of the Aiken County Sheriff's Office, where he served more than 20 years, retiring in 1996 with the rank of Lieutenant. After retirement, Bob enjoyed traveling, reading, watching TV and was an avid NASCAR fan. Bob is survived by his wife, Frances McCluney Burns of Williston; a brother, John E. Burns (Deborah), Arlington, TX; a son, Robert J. Burns, Houston, TX; a daughter, Brenda Burns, Sugarland, TX; a son, Mark Burns (Ruby), Cypress, TX; a daughter, Kathy Burns Williams (Norman), Evans, GA; step-sons, Lynwood Loehr (Cathy), North Augusta, SC, Barry S. Loehr (Trish), Urbana, IL, Rocky Millwood (Micha), Williston, SC; a step-daughter, Amy Nix (Walker), Elko, SC and numerous grandchildren. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three sisters, Marie Beck, Elizabeth Morgan and Katherine Rich and a brother, James E. Burns. Funeral Services will be held at 4 PM Friday, September 14, 2012 in the Shellhouse-Rivers Funeral Home Chapel. The family will receive friends on Friday from 3 PM until the hour of service at the funeral home.
