AIKEN – Mr. Billy Reid Scruggs, 71, died Friday, November 2, 2007 at his residence. A Memorial Service will be held at 2:00 PM Tuesday at Millbrook Baptist Church. Reverend Dr. Eddie Leopard will officiate. The family will receive friends at Woodside Country Club following the service. Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Woodside Board of Governors. Mr. Scruggs was born in Gaffney, SC, a son of the late Gother V. and Annie Bailey Scruggs. He moved to Aiken in 1955, and retired from E.I. DuPont and Westinghouse Savannah River Company (WSRC) at the Savannah River Site after working in their Human Resources Department. He was a member of Woodside Country Club, operated the Ridge Senior Couples Golf Association for 8 years, had five hole-in-ones from 1991-2000, was a member and past president of Aiken Assembly, past chairman of the Woodside Board of Governors where he continued to serve on the Executive Board of Governors, served many years as a scorekeeper at The Masters, he coached football and basketball at St. Angela Academy and at Millbrook Baptist Church. He is survived by his beloved wife, Nancy Droze Scruggs; two daughters, Charlene Greenberg, Shelby, NC, Sharon (Pat) Roberts, Eutawville, SC; two stepsons, Mark (Michelle) Hudgins, Aiken, Phillip Michael (Katherine) Hudgins, Columbia; seven grandchildren, Elise Greenberg, Brandon Greenberg, Lauren Roberts, Morgan Hudgins, Matthew Hudgins, Sarah Hudgins, Laura Nell Hudgins; and a brother, Wofford Scruggs, Belmont, NC. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Savannah River Cancer Foundation, P.O. Box 1694, Aiken, SC 29802, or the Millbrook Baptist Church Youth, 176 E. Pine Log Rd., Aiken, SC 29803.
