Robert Wilton Cone, Sr.

AIKEN, SC - Beloved husband, father, grandfather, uncle and friend, Robert W. (Bill, Bob, Wilton) Cone, Sr., 80, of Aiken, passed peacefully from this life at home with his family on Monday, October 15, 2012. Mr. Cone is survived by his wife, Roberta H. Cone; children, Margaret Cone Miller, Columbia, SC, Robert W. Cone, Jr., Palm Springs, CA, Jeffrey E. Cone (Amory), Easley, SC; granddaughter, Peyton Mira Cone, honorary grandson, Cullen Hovey, brother, Charles S. Cone (Vivian), Summerville, SC; and a host of nieces, nephews and cousins. Mr. Cone, a native of Lodge, SC, was a son of the late Margaret Rentz and Eddie Oswald Cone. He was a 1959 graduate of The Citadel, Charleston, SC and served in the US Air Force. He began his career with South Carolina Electric & Gas and ended with USC-Aiken where he formed many strong bonds. He also proudly retired from the US Army Corps of Engineers at Fort Gordon, Georgia. He lived in Aiken County for 52 years, was a member of Aiken's First Baptist Church, and was a self-appointed minister of service to the elderly, infirmed and those in need. Ever willing to lend a helping hand, he developed many close friendships over the years and chose to lead by example. He will be missed by all until we meet again. A Celebration of Life service will be conducted on Friday, October 19, 2012 at 3:00 PM at Shellhouse - Rivers Funeral Home, 715 East Pine Log Road, Aiken, SC. The family will receive friends at 2:00 PM at the funeral home prior to the service.
