AIKEN - Charles E. Wilson, Jr., of Aiken, SC, born on December, 2, 1941, died at University Hospital in Augusta, GA on October 27, 2012. In addition to his wife, Carolyn, he is survived by his son, Charles E. Wilson, III (Sherry) of Adamstown, MD; his daughter, Kristin Raker (Ken) of Derwood, MD; his daughter, Laura Crim (Ryan) of Carlisle, PA; and eight grandchildren: Travis, Colton, Bryce, Carly, Matthew, Duncan, Delaney and Darian; two sisters, Laurie Mills, of Aiken, Carol Pattison, of Port St. Lucie, FL.
Chuck was a lifelong resident of the Washington/Metropolitan area. He played football, basketball and golf at Bethesda-Chevy Chase High School and was captain of the golf team at Ohio Wesleyan University. He attended George Washington Law School in Washington, DC, and was graduated with honors in 1966.
He began practicing law in 1969 at McCarthy & Wharton in Rockville, MD, and was the Senior Partner emeritus in the successor firm, McCarthy Wilson. During his illustrious career, Chuck was President of the Montgomery County Bar, a member of the Trial Court Nominating Commission, a Fellow and Vice-Chairman of the Trial Court American Bar Foundation, and a member of the Maryland State Bar Foundation. He was elected Lawyer of the Year in 1991 by the Montgomery County Bar. In 1995, Chuck received the highest honor afforded trial attorneys by being elected as a Fellow to the American College of Trial Lawyers.
Chuck retired as the senior and managing partner of McCarthy Wilson in July of 2007, moved to South Carolina, and chose Woodside Plantation in Aiken as his permanent home. He served on the Board of Governors at Woodside Country Club, was an avid sports fan, and golf was his passion. He participated in volunteer work for Helping Hands of Aiken and facilitated a yearly charity golf tournament to benefit Helping Hands and Tri-Development Center of Aiken County.
Chuck was a loving husband, brother, father, grandfather, and friend. He will be missed by all whose lives he touched during his lifetime.
Services will be held on Wednesday, November 7, 2012, 1:00 p.m., at Saint Thaddeus Episcopal Church in Aiken, with the Reverend Grant Wiseman officiating. The family will receive friends at a reception in the Cheetham Parlor of the Stevenson-McClelland Building immediately following the service.
