AIKEN, SC - The Reverend Jesse F. “Jack” Hasty Jr., age 86, passed away on Sunday, November 11, 2012 at Trinity Lutheran Home. Rev. Hasty was born April 3, 1926, in Charlotte, NC, the only child of Jesse F. Hasty Sr. and Nancy Long Hasty. He spent his early years in Charlotte and attended Brevard College there where he played on the college’s basketball team. Following graduation from Wake Forest University in 1948, Rev. Hasty furthered his education at Andover Newton Theological Seminary near Boston, MA, where he also played on the school’s basketball team. He graduated with a Master of Divinity Degree in1952. Andover Newton is where he met and soon married Shirley Evelyn Hill of Flint, MI, in 1952. Rev. Hasty began his vocation of religious service as Minister of Education at Hayes Barton Baptist Church in Raleigh, NC in 1952. In 1958, he, Shirley and baby daughter, Nancy moved to Wilmington, NC where Rev. Hasty was Minister of Education at First Baptist Church until 1964. At that time the family, including son Timothy, transferred to Savannah, GA where Rev. Hasty served as the Minister of Education at Bull Street Baptist Church. While in Wilmington and Savannah Rev. Hasty took up fishing as a hobby. In 1971 the family moved to Aiken, SC where Rev. Hasty continued his calling at First Baptist Church as Minister of Education. Upon his retirement in 1991 he enjoyed playing golf and traveling to many foreign countries with Shirley, but one of his favorite past times was spending time with his loving granddaughters. Rev. Hasty continued to serve the community volunteering at ACTS and serving as pastoral care consultant at First Baptist Church until 2010. Rev. Hasty will be deeply missed and always remembered for his love of being with people and helping people. Rev. Hasty is survived by Shirley, his wife of 60 years; daughter, Nancy Kierspe and her husband George H. Kierspe of Palm Beach Gardens, FL; son, Timothy Hasty and his wife, Donna Mills Hasty of Aiken, SC; granddaughters Erin Hasty, Catherine Hasty, and Sarah Hasty – all of Aiken, SC Visitation will be held Tuesday evening from 5 to 7 o'clock at Shellhouse-Rivers Funeral Home. A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, November 14, 2012, at 11am at First Baptist Church, Aiken, SC with Rev. Dr. Fred W. Andrea III, Rev. Dr. Henry Chennault and Rev. Dr. James M. King officiating. Interment will be held at a later date in Charlotte, NC In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorial donations be made to ACTS (Area Churches Together Serving) 340 Park Ave. SW, Aiken, SC 29801 Rev.
