AIKEN - Herbert Paul Hoffman, 79, a true man of God, won victory over all his physical afflictions and passed easily into the arms of his Lord and Savior on Friday 18 January. He was born in Youngstown, Ohio in 1928 to Lucile and Herbert Hoffman. He was educated at Youngstown University, Westminster Choir College, and Wayne State University’s Institute of Music, graduating with a diploma in conducting and voice. He studied further with Dr. George Lynn, Dr. Robert Fountain, Paul Christianson, Robert Shaw, and Dr. John Finley Williamson. His entire life was devoted to the Church. For the first 32 years of his career, he served across the country as Minister of Music in Methodist churches from 800 to 4000 members, then moved as a Diaconal Minister into other areas of ministry for an additional 20 years, before retiring at the age of 72 from the Virginia Conference of the United Methodist Church. Mr. Hoffman is survived by Doris, his loving wife of 40 years; his brother Robert (Jean) of Oro Valley, Arizona; his sister Peggy (Tom) Fittipaldi of Pittsford, New York; son Paul of Cleveland, Ohio; son Robert (Joanne) of Akron, Ohio; daughter Shelley (Wes) Williams of Winchester, Virginia; daughter Wendy (Rick) Long, of Fairview, Tennessee; sister-in-Law Lucille Lucal of Norwalk, Ohio; and step-sister, Margie (Norman) Hayes, of Oviedo, Florida.. He leaves seven grandchildren and seven nieces and nephews, all of whom were precious to him. A Service of Celebration will be held at St. John’s United Methodist Church, Corner of Richland and Newberry, at 11:00 AM, Tuesday 22 January.
