AIKEN, SC - Jacob W. “Skip” Bowers of Aiken, SC passed away December 4, 2012 at the age of 77.
He was born August 24, 1935 in Prosperity, SC. He was preceded in death by his parents David and Daisy Bowers.
He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Shirley Hipp Bowers; daughters Tammie (Donnie) Bates. Lisa (Cameron) Scott, Sherlyn (Noel) Chapman, and Billie Lane (Joe) McCavitt: brother Bobby (Cheri) Bowers; close cousin Kay (Eddie) West; grandchildren Ashlee (Nicholas) Young , Bethany (Joshua) Raines, Bishop Scott (Melanie Tucker), Heath Bates, Heather (Jacob) Ramsey, Trey Sloan, Hunter Scott, Kessler Scott, Bradley Chapman, Emily Sloan, Katie Campbell (Chris), and Allie McCavitt; great-grandchildren Colton Raines, Anna Claire Young, and Olivia Ramsey; and a number of cousins, nieces, and nephews.
Mr. Bowers served as a founding member and head usher of Trinity United Methodist Church for 20 years. He retired from Savannah River Plant after 40 years of service. God, family, and church were his priorities. He also enjoyed hunting, playing golf, traveling, Clemson athletics, gardening, and spending time with his family.
Services will be held on Friday, December 7 at 11am at Trinity United Methodist Church in Aiken, SC. Dr. Larry Parker and Reverend Donnie Bates will officiate. Burial will follow at Zion United Methodist Church in Prosperity, SC at 3pm. Pallbearers will be grandsons. Honorary Pallbearers will be Paul Wicker, George Counts, Charles Key, Jim Carrol, and Ladd Britt.
The family will receive visitors on Thursday, December 6 from 5 to 7pm at Shellhouse- Rivers Funeral Home.
