AIKEN, SC – ROBERT L. HUNT, 85, beloved husband of Joyce Qualls Knight Hunt, died Thursday, January 31, 2008 at his residence.
A native of Flat Rock, IL, Mr. Hunt was a son of the late Gerald and Della Fetters Hunt. He was a veteran of the US Army and served in the 589th Field Artillery in the 106th Division during World War II. He was a Prisoner of War and was awarded two purple hearts, two bronze service stars and the good conduct medal. He retired from Owens Corning Fiberglass and was a member of Cedar Creek Church and the DAV.
Survivors include his beloved wife Joyce, a daughter, June (Ernie) Girolamo, Powell, TN, two sons, Charles Robert (Sandra) Hunt, Riverside, AL and James Robert (Patsy) Hunt, Aiken, five step-children, Mike (Karen) Knight, Gerald (Debra) Knight, Bill (Brenda) Knight, and Libby (Stanley) Roach all of Grey Court, SC and Charles (Tonya) Knight, Hodges, SC, a sister, Joan Culp, Tampa, FL, a brother, Gene Hunt, Riverside, CA, thirteen grandchildren, eighteen great-grandchildren, six great-great-grandchildren, Sixteen step-grandchildren and seventeen step-great-grandchildren. Mr. Hunt was preceded in death by his first wife, Blondell Taylor Hunt, four sisters, Beulah Sockler, Agnes Liston, Francis Rogers and Laura Benson and three brothers, Raymond Hunt, James Donald Hunt, and Paul Wayne Hunt.
Funeral services will be held Sunday at 3:00 PM in the chapel of Shellhouse – Rivers Funeral Home, 715 East Pine Log Rd., Aiken, SC. Interment with military honors will follow in Aiken Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 PM Saturday at the funeral home.
