Rhea Johnson Burgess

AIKEN – Rhea Johnson Burgess, 84, died Thursday. Funeral services will be held Sunday at 2:00 PM at Aiken First Baptist Church with the Rev. Dr. Fred Andrea, III officiating. Interment will follow at Glover Family Cemetery. She was born in Aiken to the late Barney Otto and Lillie Glover Johnson. She was a lifelong resident of Aiken; former Clerk with Aiken Co. Treasurers Office; member of Aiken First Baptist Church; Truth Seekers Sunday School Class; Old Aiken Bridge Club and Country Gardeners Club. She was preceded in death by her husband, Jessie Van Buren “Bill” Burgess. Survivors include her loving daughters, Judith D. Burgess and Susan (Ronnie) Wade of Aiken. Other survivors include grandchildren, Andrew R. Wade, S. Katherine Wade, Scotty Mills, Christy Heaton; sister, Ernice J. Ferguson, Aiken and caregiver, Patricia Carter. Pallbearers will be Scotty Mills, Edward Burgess, Arthur Woodward, James Bell, Steve Brown, Frank Thomas, and Bill Smith. Honorary pallbearers will be Truth Seekers Sunday School Class and Old Aiken Bridge Club. Memorials may be directed to First Baptist Church, P.O.B. 3157, Aiken, SC 29802.
