James D. Patterson

AIKEN, SC- JAMES D. PATTERSON, 87, of Aiken, SC, died December 25, 2012 at Aiken Regional Medical Centers. Mr. Patterson was born on January 26, 1925 in Clay County, Alabama, and had made Aiken his home since 1956. He proudly served his country as a medic in the US Army during World War II. He was a graduate of Jacksonville State University and received his Masters degree from Peabody University in Nashville, TN. Mr. Patterson retired from EI DuPont at the Savannah River Plant after 36 years of service. He was a dedicated member of Aiken's First Baptist Church since 1956 where he was Deacon Emeritus and a member of the Men's Sunday school class. Mr. Patterson was an avid golfer and loved to garden. He coached Little League and Pony League and American Legion baseball in the 1960s. He is survived by his beloved wife of 65 years, Sara Hampton Patterson; a daughter, Debbie Jones, Anderson, SC; a son Ronnie V. (Pamela) Patterson, Columbus, NC; five grandchildren, Brendan (Antoinette) Palmer, Adam (Florence) Roach, Selena Patterson, Alicia (Greg Wallace) Patterson and Ian Patterson; three great-grandchildren, Eli and Loren Roach and Eris Palmer; two sisters, Ruth Buchanan, Lineville, AL and Betty (Willis) Johnson, Oxford, AL. Funeral services will be held 11 AM Friday, December 28, 2012 at Aiken's First Baptist Church with the Rev. Dr. Fred W. Andrea, III officiating. Interment will follow in Aiken Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends prior to the funeral from 10 until the hour of service in the church parlor.
