AIKEN – Mrs. Evelyn Taylor Laird, 75, died Tuesday, January 8, 2013 at Aiken Regional Medical Centers. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 AM Friday at Millbrook Baptist Church with the Reverend Stephen McNeill, the Reverend Dr. Chris Masters and the Reverend Dr. Eddie Leopard officiating. Interment will follow in Southlawn Cemetery. Visitors will be received at the home of Mrs. Evelyn Laird, and from 5-7 PM Thursday evening in the Millbrook Baptist Church worship center. Pallbearers will be Craig Hale, Joe DeHart, Rick Caldwell, Wayman Corley, Jr., Frankie Goldman, and Bob Buckley. Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Senior Women’s Sunday School class. Mrs. Laird is survived by her devoted husband, The Reverend David C. Laird, Jr.; her loving children, Bradley David (Valerie) Laird, Aiken, Darlynn Laird (Ron) Moore, Aiken, Brett Darien (Mary Beth) Laird, Aiken; three special granddaughters, Summer Ann Mundy, Kaitlyn Elizabeth Laird and Haley Darlynn Moore; three special grandsons, Tyler Ryan Laird, Hunter Brett Laird and Taylor Carter Moore. She is also survived by her siblings, a twin sister, Nevelyn T. Glenn, Gaston, SC, Myrtle (Harold) Rikard, West Columbia, SC, Bertie Sharpe, Gaston, SC, Delmage Taylor, Evans, GA; many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, Lawrence Franklin and Reta Alberta Sharpe Taylor; siblings, Frankie, T. Cable, Ponelle T. Rowland, Doris T. West, Norman Taylor, Fritz Taylor and Layton Taylor. Mrs. Laird, a native of Gaston, SC, was married to her high school sweetheart and served as a devoted pastor’s wife for 57 years, with 21 years of that time spent at Levels Baptist Church. She was also a kindergarten aide at East Aiken Elementary for 20 years until she retired. She was also a member of Millbrook Baptist Church, member of the Senior Women’s Sunday School class, and member of the Jubilee Choir. She enjoyed spending time at church and making memories with her family and grandchildren.
