AIKEN – Mrs. Elizabeth Woodward Sofge, 86, died Tuesday, February 5, 2013. Mrs. Sofge was born in Aiken, SC, the daughter of the late James Earl and Lillian Plunkett Woodward. She was a graduate of Winthrop College, a lifelong resident of Aiken, and a loving homemaker for her family. Mrs. Sofge was an active member of St. John's United Methodist Church, a member of St. John's Circle # 3, a member of the Horse Creek Valley Historical Society, a member of the Airstream Club, and an avid Bridge player. She is survived by her three daughters; Nancy Sofge (Nick) Martin, Aiken, Virginia Sofge (Terry) Haynes, Petal, MS, Barbara Sofge (Frank) McIntyre, Jesup, GA; ten grandchildren, Janet Davis Zielke, Jeffrey C. Davis, Timothy A. Haynes, Bethany B. Smith, Holly H. Barron, Michael F. Haynes, Erin E. Haynes, Jonathan P. Haynes, Charles J. McIntyre, Kellie A. McIntyre; three step grandchildren, Jennifer M. Anderson, Jessica Martin, Nikki Lynne Martin; seven great grandchildren, McKenna Zielke, Megan Zielke, Maryn Zielke, Walker Davis, Bryce Barron, Tytus Barron, Johnathan Anderson; sister-in-law Eleanor Sofge Boulware, Rock Hill, SC; several first cousins, and a number of nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Sofge was preceded in death by her beloved husband, James Fraser Sofge, Jr. and brothers Joseph Earl Woodward, Jr. and Jack P. Woodward. Prior to the services there will be a Reception from 12:00 noon to 2:00 PM at the church. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM Saturday, February 9, 2013 at St. John's United Methodist Church, 104 Newberry Street, with the Reverend Dr. George K. Howle officiating. Interment will be held at 3:30 PM in Westover Memorial Park, Augusta, GA. Pallbearers will be Jeffery C. Davis, Matthew T. Zielke, Timothy A. Haynes, Michael F. Haynes, Jonathan P. Haynes, Charles J. McIntyre, Myke W. Barron, and Brian E. Smith. Honorary pallbearers will be Jimmie Bell, Robert Cook, Dwain Mayer, Lamar Keisler, Bill Sofge, Philip Huntley, David Huntley, and Bob Mallaney. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to St. John's United Methodist Church, P O Box 809, Aiken, SC 29802.
