Russell Messick

AIKEN, SC - RUSSELL ANDREWS MESSICK, 91, beloved husband of Ruth Longmire Messick, died Thursday, February 28 2013 at Aiken Regional Medical Centers. A native of Cambridge, MD, Mr. Messick was a son of the late Russell A. and Mary Mowbrey Messick. He graduated from the University of Tennessee, and proudly served his country in the United States Navy during World War II. Mr. Messick moved to Aiken in 1952, and was a retired accountant for the Department of Energy at the Savannah River Plant. He was a member of Saint John's United Methodist Church, was active in Dixie League Baseball in his early years in Aiken and was a member of VFW Post 5877. In addition to his wife, Ruth, survivors include, two daughters, Connie Price, and Susan Ergle, Aiken, SC; a son, Joe Messick, all of Aiken, SC; ten grandchildren, Russ Messick, Traci Messick Ritt, Joey Messick, Gina Cato, Burt Starks, Julie Ziegler, Cliff Dyches, Lisa Eidson, Jill Eidson, and Eric Eidson; and also nine great grandchildren. Funeral services will be held Saturday, March 02, 2013 at 2 PM at Shellhouse- Rivers Funeral Home with The Rev. Dr. George K. Howle officiating. Interment will follow in Southlawn Cemetery.
