She was born on September 16, 1920, in Morgantown, West Virginia, to Samuel and Essie Hartley, the last daughter of nine children. She is survived by one sibling, her younger brother, Kenneth S. Hartley of Orange, Texas.
Mary was married prior to World War II, raised children for over 35 years, and remained devoted to her family her entire life. She and her husband, Frank, moved to Aiken in 1952. Mary loved her ladies’ golf groups both at Highland Park Country Club and Houndslake Country Club, loved her bridge groups, and all the relationships she formed over the years with all her golf and bridge partners. Up until the last couple of months, she enjoyed a full and active life.
A member of St. John’s United Methodist Church for over fifty-eight years, her services will be conducted in the sanctuary at 11:00 o’clock the morning of Friday, March 22, with graveside burial at Aiken Memorial Gardens immediately following. Prior to the service, the family will receive friends beginning at 10:00 am in Ward Hall at the church. Pallbearers will be David and Bryce Wilkerson, Mike Copeland, Roy Mills, Ron Schroder, Kent Falb, and Gary Hall. Honorary pallbearers are B. Henderson Johnson, Jr. and J. Stewart Petersen, Jr.
Mary enjoyed her final years at Trinity and all the many new relationships she formed. The family wishes to thank everyone who contributed to her life and well being over these final few years and especially wants to thank the entire caring staff at Trinity.
