John Henry Ledford

NEW ELLENTON, SC - JOHN HENRY LEDFORD, 87, died Thursday, March 28, 2013 at his residence. Born in Cowpens, SC, Mr. Ledford was a son of the late Logan and Effie Harris Ledford. He grew up in Mayo, SC. He proudly served his country in the United States Navy in World War II and Korea and retired from the Naval Reserves. Following retirement from the Navy, Mr. Ledford had a 30 year career with DuPont at the Savannah River Site working on patrol and in the boiler room. He enjoyed fishing and cooking and was a Mason and Shriner. Survivors include a daughter, Lorraine Penvose; a son, Larry Randall Ledford (Pat), all of New Ellenton; seven grandchildren, Melissa Penvose, Derek Penvose, Jonathan Ledford, Adam Ledford and Tabitha Ledford, all of New Ellenton, Laurie Ledford, Lancaster, SC and Lamar Ledford, Chesnee, SC; and seven great-grandchildren, Malcolm and Xaiver Penvose, Casey Johnson, Jr., Elaina and John Allen Penvose, Shane Ledford and Evan Ledford.. In addition to his parents, Mr. Ledford was preceded in death by his wife of 46 years, Joyce Ann White Ledford; a son, Leonard Clyde Ledford; five brothers and a half-sister. The family will receive friends from 1 to 2 PM Saturday at Shellhouse - Rivers Funeral Home followed by a funeral service at 2 PM. Chaplain Mark Hudson and Rev. William Eaves will officiate.
