Herbert Drewry Richards

AIKEN – Mr. Herbert Drewry Richards, 92, died Saturday, April 6, 2013. The family will receive friends from 12:30-2:00 PM Tuesday with the funeral service to begin at 2:00 PM at Trinity United Methodist Church. The Reverend Larry Parker will officiate. Interment will follow in Bethany Cemetery. Mr. Richards was born in Norfolk, VA, a son of the late Vurley and Armie Jones Richards. He had been a resident of Aiken since 2008, and member of Trinity United Methodist Church. He served in WWII with the US Air Force, and was an aircraft mechanic at the Naval Air Station in Norfolk, VA. He was a member of the Portsmouth, VA Moose Club, the Chesapeake, VA Lions Club, was active in Chesapeake recreation, and loved to dance. Survivors include his beloved wife, Thelma Blevins Richards; sons, Herbert (Sandy) Richards, Charlotte, NC, Ronald (Betsy) Jesse Richards, Wake Forest, NC, Hurley James Richards, Norfolk, VA; step daughter, Patricia McAllister, Indian Trail, NC; step son, John (Carol) McAllister, Aiken; grandchildren, Kammy Ruettgers, Tara Wing, Justin Richards, Zackary Richards, Jason McAllister, Anna McAllister; great grandchildren, Jacob Ruettgers, Ryan Ruettgers, Jessica Wing, Megan Wing, Brianna McAllister.
