AIKEN, SC- JAMES ROBERT GANTT, 86, of Aiken, SC, died Friday, April 12, 2013 at Aiken Regional Medical Centers. A native of Leesville, SC, Mr. Gantt was the son of the late James and Flossie Reynolds Gantt. He was life-long resident of Aiken and was a US Air Force veteran, having served during WWII. He was a member of Millbrook Baptist Church, the Aiken County Shrine Club, the Jamil Temple, the USCA Pacers Club and was a former little league baseball coach. Mr. Gantt retired as a Switching Equipment Technician from AT&T and enjoyed hunting, fishing, golfing, bowling and spending time with his family. Survivors include his wife, Beth Birchmore Gantt; three sons, James "Ted" (Janice) Gantt, Lexington, SC, Robert G. "Bobby" (Theresa) Gantt, Sr., North Augusta, SC and Seldon A. Gantt, Edgefield, SC; four step-daughters, Patricia (Andy) Pittman, West Columbia, SC, Elaine (David) Core, Aurora, IN, Linda (Don) Strosnider, Charleston, SC and Elizabeth (Lloyd) Bessinger, West Columbia, SC; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren and a sister, Jeanette (Preston) Derrick, West Columbia, SC. Funeral services will be held at 2 PM Sunday, April 14, 2013 in the Shellhouse-Rivers Funeral Home Chapel, East Pine Log Rd., with the Rev. Dr. Chris Masters officiating. Interment will follow in Batesburg Cemetery. Pallbearers will be grandsons, JT Gantt, Rob Gantt, Rhett Adams, Todd Garrett, Reece Bessinger and Billy Pittman. Honorary Pallbearers will be members of the USCA Pacers Club and the Aiken County Shrine Club. The family will receive friends at the funeral home this Saturday evening from 6 until 8 PM. Memorial contributions may be directed to the Millbrook Baptist Church Building Fund or the Shriners Hospital, 950 W. Faris Rd., Greenville, SC 29605.
