JOYCE H. CHAVIS, 66, beloved wife of Ben Allen Chavis, died Sunday, June 16, 2013 at her residence following an extended illness.
A native and lifelong resident of Aiken County, Joyce was a daughter of the late James and Betty Rankin Hendrix. She worked as a bookkeeper for 26 years at Aiken Lumber Company and for Two Fine Fellows Auto Sales. She was a charter member of Solid Rock Baptist Church and had attended Christian Heritage Church for the last several years.
Additional survivors include a daughter, Keri Chavis; two sons, Brad Chavis, and Brent (Veronica) Chavis; a granddaughter, Olivia Chavis; two aunts, Pauline Woodward and Sally Wise; cousin, Joanne Jones; close friends and caregivers, Dianne Neeley, Faye Golding and Ann Turner. In addition to her parents, Joyce was preceded in death by a brother, Jimmy Hendrix.
Joyce had a remarkable faith and ability to love whole heartedly. Her sweet, gentle spirit was undeniable and she walked in humility. Her legacy of love will surely live on through her family and friends.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 PM tonight (Tuesday) at Shellhouse - Rivers Funeral Home.
A memorial service will be held Wednesday at 5:00 PM at Christian Heritage Church with The Rev. Stephen Phillips officiating. Interment will be private.
