AIKEN – Mrs. Anna Estelle GIaffis Hanna, 70, died Wednesday, June 19, 2013 at her residence.
A memorial service will be held at 1:00 PM Saturday at St. Thaddeus Episcopal Church with the Reverend Grant Wiseman officiating. Inurnment will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends in the Stevenson- McClelland Building following the graveside service.
Mrs. Hanna was born in Wilmington, NC, a daughter of the late James George and Martha Cowan Giaffis. She had been a resident of Aiken since 1952. She was a past president of the Jaycetts, past chairman of the March of Dimes, past tutor at Pinecrest School, an assistant coach for the Aiken High School Academic Team, and a Miss Aiken chaperone. As a member of St. Thaddeus Episcopal Church, she was very active and in charge of the soup kitchen, taking meals to the sick and shut-ins, and in organizing receptions at the church.
She is survived by her loving husband, Carey McConnell ‘Mac’ Hanna; daughter, Catherine (Will) Post, Aiken; sons Jimmy (Anita) Hanna, Aiken; Chris Hanna, Aiken, David (Tara) Hanna, Aiken; two grandchildren, Tatum and Cody Hanna. She was preceded in death by her beloved cat, Bubba.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be directed to the Mead Hall Scholarship Fund, 129 Pendleton St., Aiken, SC 29801.
