Patricia Smith Goodyear

November 4, 1924 — June 27, 2013

AIKEN, SC- Patricia Smith Goodyear passed peacefully at her home on June 27, 2013. She is survived by her brother, James Smith of Buffalo, NY; her children, Cici Goodyear of Aiken, SC, Bob Goodyear of Denver, CO, Ginny Goodyear of Aiken, SC, Dodie Wilson of Corvallis, OR and Margie Goodyear of Parker, CO; grandchildren, Elijah Good-Farm, Aaron Good-Farm, Becca Goodyear, Emily Forgett, Sarah Goodyear, Seth Kopald, Laura Kopald, Dana Kopald, Amelia Wilson, Anna Wilson, and great-granddaughter, Lily Good-Farm. She was preceded in death by her loving husband of 63 years, Bobby, and her daughter Patsy Good-Farm. Patty graduated from the Elmwood Franklin School in Buffalo, NY and Westover School in Middlebury, CT. She then attended Hurst Business School in Buffalo. During World War II she worked with the American Women’s Volunteer Service by driving Army jeeps, transporting diplomats and dignitaries to their various meetings. In 1947 she married the love of her life, Bobby Goodyear. They shared a passion for sports and travel. Remarkably, as a mother of six, Patty found time for golf, tennis, horseback riding, fly fishing for salmon and hunting dove and duck. She was devoted to her toy poodles and throughout the years they provided lasting and loving companionship. Patty and Bobby’s passion for travel took them many places, their favorites being Africa, Canada, and Harbor Island. Patty cared deeply about the local community, serving as President of the Board of Trustees at the Aiken Day School, the Hitchcock Woods Foundation, the Aiken SPCA, and as a member of the Aiken Garden Club. She also worked as a volunteer at the Aiken Hospital and taught remedial reading. Patty was known for her genuine kindness and respect for others, never putting herself above another. She will be dearly missed by her family, friends, and her dog Daisy. In lieu of flowers, donations may be directed to the Hitchcock Woods Foundation, PO Box 1702, Aiken, SC 29802.
