James Lee Whitmire

December 23, 1965 — April 15, 2008

TALLAHASSEE, FL – Mr. James Lee Whitmire, 42, died Tuesday April 15, 2008 at Tallahassee Memorial Hospital. Mr. Whitmire was born in Asheville, NC to Elmer L. and Betty Jenkins Whitmire. Mr. Whitmire was a graduate from Silver Bluff High School. After high school he enlisted in the U.S. Navy. He was a graduate of the Hospital Corpsman “A” School of Health Science in Groton, CT , received his BS in Health Science from George Washington University and was awarded the Golden Key of the National Honor Society. He received a Masters Degree in Science Operations Management and also in Health and Safety Management from the University of Arkansas. At his retirement from the Navy in 2006, he was the Senior Diving Medical Technician / Independent Duty Corpsman for the Navy. Survivors include his beloved wife Robin Freeman Whitmire, his daughter Lindy Bri’Ann Whitmire, Memphis, TN, a son Christopher Lee Whitmire, Tallahassee, FL, his parents Elmer and Betty Whitmire, Simpsonville, SC, two brothers Ronald (Connie) Whitmire, Graniteville, SC, and Marty (Mary Medlin) Whitmire, San Diego, CA, a sister Anita (Kevin) Creamer, and their son Corey of Jackson SC, his mother-in-law, Betty A. Freeman, New Ellenton, numerous nieces and nephews, and his two beloved dogs Snickers and Oreo. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Elmer L. Whitmire and Cordelia Fisher and Roy and Mildren Jenkins, and his father-in-law, Charles L. Freeman. A graveside service will be held at Southlawn Cemetery, Sunday at 3PM with the Reverend Blair Davis officiating. Family will receive friends Saturday from 5 PM to 7 PM at Shellhouse-Rivers Funeral Home, 715 East Pine Log Rd., Aiken, SC 29803.
