AIKEN, SC-John “Jack” E. Fleming completed life’s journey and entered into eternal rest Monday April 21, 2008. Born September 4, 1923 in Sharon, PA. The son of the late William McIntyre Fleming and Edna Billings Fleming. Mr. Fleming lived most of his life in Pittsburgh, PA. After graduating from Central Catholic High School in 1942, he served 3 years in the Air Force in World War II and flew 35 combat missions. After the war he attended the University of Pittsburgh and spent more than 27 years in the insurance business.
He was past president of the Carnegie Rotary of Pittsburgh, a member of the National Association of Security dealers and several insurance organizations.
Mr. Fleming retired in 1985 when he and his beloved wife, Marilyn, moved to Fripp Island, SC. He was a member of the Fripp Island Sea Rescue unit for 8 years. He was an avid golfer, tennis player, and fisherman.
Mr. Fleming is survived by his wife Marilyn of 44 years, a daughter Linda (Phillip) Gelacek of Pittsburgh, PA, two sons John C. Fleming of Pittsburgh, PA and Gary (Christy) Fleming of Evans, GA, three grandchildren John, Jayme, and Melissa, a sister Mary Ellen (Trevor) Sainsbury of Gibsonia, PA, brother of the late William (Mary Catherine) Fleming and Gerald “Bings” (Lucille) Fleming, and several nieces and nephews. He will truly be missed by family and many friends. A military burial in Beaufort followed by a service on Fripp Island at a later date.
