AIKEN, SC - Willie “Wayne” Hensley, age 85, passed away on Wednesday, July 31, 2013 at his home in Aiken, SC with his twin daughters by his side. Wayne was born in Burnsville, NC and was the son of the late Roscoe and Zoe (Higgins) Hensley. He is survived by daughters Pam (Dick) Verenes and Pat Lawhead, grandson John (Lindsay) Lawhead, great-granddaughters Campbell Jean and Sydney Zoe. He is also survived siblings Hope Vaughn, Mescal Hudson, and Phil Hensley. Wayne was predeceased by brothers Steve and J.C.
A lifelong golfer, Wayne was a proud member of Palmetto Golf Club since 1973. Later in life he enjoyed encouraging people off the 1st tee as a starter at Cedar Creek Golf Club. Wayne served in the U.S. Army as a military police officer in Germany after WWII. He was a longtime resident of Aiken since 1953 and worked as a Mechanical Draftsman at Savannah River Site, employed by Dupont, for 42 years.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, August 3, 2013 at Shellhouse - Rivers Funeral Home with Pastor Phillip Lee officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.
