AIKEN, SC - CLARENCE CLIFTON "BUTCH" LeGRAND, 88, beloved husband of Betty Windham LeGrand, died Sunday, August 4, 2013 at his home surrounded by his loving family.
Born in Columbia, SC, Mr. LeGrand was a son of the late Eula Peavey and John Edward LeGrand, Sr. He proudly served his country in the United States Navy working on Liberty Ships during World War II. He had made Aiken his home since 1952. Mr. LeGrand was an X-ray technician at the old Aiken County Hospital and retired as Chief X-Ray Technician from Aiken Regional Medical Centers. Following his retirement he worked with the United States Marshals Service at the Charles E. Simons, Jr. Federal Courthouse. He was a member of South Aiken Presbyterian Church where he served as past Elder, Deacon and Sunday School Superintendant. Butch loved his garden, sharing his harvest, fishing and traveling with his family.
Survivors, in addition to his wife Betty, include three daughters, Elizabeth "Beth" Pearson (Ralph), Little Mountain, SC, Peggy Plyler (Dan), Aiken, SC and Julie Paradise (Dick), Orlando, FL; a brother, Talmadge LeGrand, Edgefield, SC; four sisters, Sara Grace Partain, Bishopville, SC, Hester Dorothy Smith, Bishopville, SC, Mary Sue Watts, Florence, SC and Pamela Jean Rembert, Sumter, SC; six grandchildren, Aimee Pearson Heard, Jennifer Leigh Pearson, Stephen LeGrand Paradise, Daniel Clifton Plyler, Derek Lee Paradise and Dianna Plyler Kubacz and eight great-grandchildren. In addition to his parents, Mr. LeGrand was preceded in death by three brothers, John Edward LeGrand, Jr., Marion Lynwood LeGrand and Thomas Alan LeGrand.
The family will receive friends Tuesday from 6 to 8 PM at Shellhouse - Rivers Funeral Home.
Funeral services will be Wednesday, August 7, 2013 at 10:30 AM at South Aiken Presbyterian Church with The Reverend Dr. Christopher Crotwell and Reverend Judy Bowling officiating. Interment will follow in Southlawn Cemetery with military honors. Pallbearers will be Stephen Paradise, Daniel Plyler, Derek Paradise, Jon Heard, Jeff Craver, Dean Kubacz and Alfred Talton.
