AIKEN, SC - Mr. Richard Herold, 84, husband of Linda Herold, entered into rest in his residence in Aiken, SC on August 28, 2013. Born in Wayne, WV, Mr. Herold lived in Aiken for the past 60 years. He held an honorary doctorate from the University of SC in Aiken. He attended Marshall College in Huntington, West Virginia and received his Doctorate degree in Nuclear Physics from the University of Kentucky. He was the CEO of Herold Enterprises, as well as a nuclear physicist at Dupont in his earlier years. He was a passionate member of several organizations including the Garden City Chorus where he proudly sang bass and “kept the whole world singing.” Mr. Herold was also a long-time member of Civil Air Patrol where he diligently held the position of Wing Commander for several years. He was a strong supporter of counter-drug operations and cadet activities. Mr. Herold’s living family members include his wife Linda Lane Herold, daughters Kathy and Susan, grandson Donovan, sister Freida (Phil) Waybright, and his cousin Gloria Martin of West Virginia. His predeceased include his parents, Ora and Samuel Herold, and his late wife, Mildred “Mitzi” Herold. Mr. Herold’s vivacious spirit will be greatly missed by all. The family will greet friends at Shellhouse-Rivers Funeral Home on Friday, August 30th from 6-8 PM, and the Celebration of Life service will be held on Saturday, August 31st at 1 PM, also at Shellhouse-Rivers Funeral Home. Additional services and interment will take place Wednesday, September 4, 2013 at 2:30 PM in the Chapel of Angels at Forest Park Lawndale Cemetery, Houston, TX.
