Karen Maureen Shanlian age 57, departed this world into the arms of her Savior on September 5, 2013 at 8:40 p.m. Karen leaves behind her husband Dr. Michael Shanlian of Aiken and daughter Jessica from North Augusta. She is preceded in death by her father and mother, Robert and Marleen Cain of Romeo Michigan. Karen was born on November 17th 1955. She and her husband were both longtime residents of Romeo Michigan.
Karen battled Multiple Sclerosis for over thirty years. She faced death on several occasions and endured countless operations and other medical procedures. Yet all who knew her remember a woman who radiated the love of Jesus. She had a bubbly personality and contagious smile. She loved to speak with the hurting, neglected, and forgotten souls around her. With all of her problems she seldom complained. Her positive attitude inspired all who came in contact with her. She was not ashamed of sharing her love for her Savior to anyone who would listen.
Karen Cain graduated from Romeo High School in 1973. On July 13, 1973 she married Michael Shanlian also from Romeo. She and her husband attended Midwestern Baptist College in Pontiac Michigan. Michael and Karen served together in ministry and lived in several different states. Their only daughter Jessica was born on November 9th 1981. Karen’s legacy will be, trials are not roadblocks but opportunities for God to show up! The Shanlian’s life verse is “We know all things work together for good to them that love God and are the called according to His purpose.” (Romans 8:28)
There will be a celebration of Karen’s life at Town Creek Baptist Church on Monday September 9th, at 1:30. Dr. Michael Shanlian, Dr. Mark Canipe, Rev.Marion Britton, and Rev. Robert Laube officiating. Family and friends will be received between 11 am and 1pm. There will be a celebration dinner at the church following the service. There will be no graveside ceremony.
