AIKEN, SC – JERRY A. CARNES, 80, husband of the late Elma Sanders Carnes, died at his residence on Monday the 30th of September 2013.
A native of Sylvester, GA, Mr. Carnes was a son of the late Nathan and Mary Hatcher Carnes. He served in the Army during the Korean Conflict, retiring at the rank of Sergeant First Class. Jerry lived in Aiken from 1971 until 1979 before moving to Lake Murray. He returned to Aiken in 2004. Jerry was a member of Talatha Baptist Church. He loved fishing and traveling. He and his late wife spent several winters in Zephyrhills, FL.
Survivors include two daughters, Elaine (Gary) Gunter, Decatur, GA, Kim (Randy) Cuyler, Buchanan, MI; six sons, Roger (Amy) West, Hanahan, SC, Robert (Barbara) West, Simpsonville, SC, William (Sharon) West, Aiken, Christie (Wan Hong Zhou) West, Denmark, SC, Tony (Donna) Carnes, Aiken, and Mike (Joyce) Carnes, North Augusta; 15 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; a sister, Janie Hawk, Newnan, GA and a brother, Mike (Doris) Carnes, Hogansville, GA .
The family will receive friends Wednesday evening from 6 until 8 o’clock at Shellhouse – Rivers Funeral Home.
The funeral service will be conducted Thursday afternoon at 3 o’clock at Talatha Baptist Church with The Rev. Kevin Carter officiating. Interment will follow in Southlawn Cemetery with military honors.
