http://www.aikenunitedforashleyandriley.com/ AIKEN, SC - ASHLEY NICOLE KANEY, 26, died along with her daughter Riley Katherine Burdick on Monday the 30th of September 2013 at their residence in Summerville, SC. Born in Montgomery, AL, Ashley was a daughter of Katherine Guinn Kaney and the late Christopher Leo Kaney. She lived in Aiken all her life before moving to Summerville a year and a half ago. Ashley was a graduate of South Aiken High School, Class of 2005. She attended Aiken Technical College and earned her associates degree as a dental hygienist assistant. Ashley had worked as a waitress and hostess at several restaurants in Aiken while she was attending college. Survivors include her mother, Katherine of Aiken; a brother, J. Travis (Rachel) Ryan, Aiken; a sister, Michele Ortiz, Aiken; four aunts, Angel (Jerry) Lynn, Graniteville, Lydia Kaney, North Augusta, Bernadette (Walt) Reiss, Placentia, CA, and Marilyn Mazza, Hermosa Beach, CA; and four uncles, Mark Kaney, Aiken, Matthew (Vivian) Kaney, Johnson City, TN, Patrick (Sandy) Kaney, Alpharetta, GA and Gerald (Maggie) Kaney, Alexander City, AL. In addition to her father, Ashley was preceded in death by her daughter Riley Katherine Burdick; a sister, Katherine and a brother, Christopher L. Kaney, Jr. A memorial service for Ashley and Riley will be held three o'clock Sunday afternoon at Cedar Creek Church with The Rev. Philip Lee officiating. The family will receive friends at the church beginning at two o'clock. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to Shellhouse - Rivers Funeral Home to help defray funeral expenses.
