AIKEN, SC - LUTHER MOSES HAMM, 81, beloved husband of Cleo Key Hamm, died Tuesday, the 8th of October 2013 at University Hospital, Augusta, GA following an extended illness. A native of Elba, AL, Mr. Hamm was a son of the late Lotuce Lee and Willie Gertrude Vaughan Hamm, Sr. He moved to Aiken in 1953 to work for DuPont at the Savannah River Plant. Luther worked in the Savannah River Lab and also in the E & I Department. He later worked as an instructor before moving into management. He retired after 40 years at the site. Luther attended Millbrook Baptist Church where he was a member of the Langford Sunday School Class and the Whittlers. Survivors include his wife, Cleo; three daughters, Helen Diane (Steve) Hargett, Simpsonville, SC, Debra H. (Randy), Griffin, Savannah, GA, Teresa H. (Randy), Simmons, Aiken, SC; two sons, Luther Larry (Laura) Hamm, North Augusta, SC, Compton Wayne (Debbie) Cooper, Martinez, GA; grandchildren, Andrew Hargett, Zachary Hargett, Benjamin Hargett, Brianna Hargett, Monica Hamm, Bill Norton, Tonya Johnson, Michelle Smith, Alan Griffin, Jennifer Cruz, Wesley Cooper, David Cooper, Richard Cooper, Melissa Mobley, Leslie Haywood, Melinda Mosca; 26 great-grandchildren; three brothers, Lotuce L. (Elizabeth) Hamm, Jr., Birmingham, AL, Dr. Phillip (June) Hamm, Elba, AL and Wayne (Joyce) Hamm, Birmingham, AL. In addition to his parents, Mr. Hamm was preceded in death by his first wife, Mary Helen Calhoun Hamm and six siblings. The funeral service will be held at six o’clock on Friday the 11th of October in the evening at Shellhouse – Rivers Funeral Home, 715 East Pine Log Road, where the Rev. Dr. Chris Masters of Millbrook Baptist Church is to officiate. The family will receive friends following the service at the funeral home. Additional funeral services will take place at Hayes Funeral Home in Elba, AL, followed by interment in Elba Evergreen Cemetery.
