Edward Ling

December 25, 1924 — October 11, 2013

AIKEN, SC - Mr. Edward Shang-Yi Ling, beloved husband of Marian Ling, died on October 11, 2013 at his residence. Born December 25, 1924 in Hankow, China, Mr. Ling was the son of the late Dr. Tsoren Lee Ling and Mrs. Shuching Chao Ling. Mr. Ling was raised on the campus of the University of Shanghai, Shanghai, China where his father was the Dean of the University, and earned a BS in Business Administration and Accounting from there in 1947. Upon graduation, he accepted a position with the Caltex Corporation, a subsidiary of Texaco, in Hong Kong. In 1963, Mr. Ling and his family moved to the United States where he worked for the New York University Medical Center in New York City, New York until 1969 when the family moved to Columbia, SC. In Columbia, Mr. Ling worked for the University of South Carolina Treasurer’s Office where he served as the Head of Accounting for the Carolina Coliseum; supervised the University Credit Union; and managed the University Research and Development Foundation. Mr. Ling retired from the University of South Carolina in 1989 and remained in Columbia, SC until 1998 when he and his wife Marian moved to Aiken, SC. Mr. Ling was an active member of the North Trenholm Baptist Church in Columbia, SC and after moving to Aiken, Millbrook Baptist Church where he was a member of the Rainbow Choir and enjoyed traveling with senior members of the congregation. Surviving are his widow, Marian M. Ling; son Lawrence T. Ling and his wife Kelly of Aiken, SC; three grandchildren; Stephanie K. Ling, B. Barrett Way, and Casey E. Way of Aiken, SC; two brothers; Dr. Lincoln Ling of Shanghai, China; and Charles Ling of Beijing, China; sister-in-law Elaine L. Ling of Moncks Corner, SC; and a number of nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be held on November 27, 2013 at 11:00 am at the Millbrook Baptist Church Chapel with the Reverend Dr. Chris Masters officiating.
