JACKSON, SC - After a long battle with cancer, Susan Blake Sloan died peacefully at her home in Jackson, SC Sunday evening, October 20th, 2013. Born in St. Augustine, FL on April 5, 1958, Susan is the daughter of William A. Blake, Sr. (deceased) and Barbara A. Blake of Charlotte, NC. Susan married Jeffrey Franklin Sloan, Sr. on September 17, 1977. They have two sons, Jeffrey F. Sloan, Jr., his wife Amy Griffin and their three children, Landon, Patrick and Morgan, Warrenville, SC and Adam Blake Sloan and his daughter Payton, Jackson, SC. Susan has two brothers, William A. Blake, Jr. of Orlando, FL, Robert A. Blake, Charlotte, NC and two sisters, Beverly B. Cannaday and her husband Curt, Mint Hill, NC and Belinda G. Blake, Charlotte, NC. Susan was also loved by many aunts and uncles, nieces and nephews. Before retiring to become a full-time homemaker Susan was employed as a Rating Supervisor with Kemper Insurance in Charlotte, NC. She regularly attended Trinity United Methodist Church where all four of her Grandchildren were students. When her sons were students at Greendale Elementary School she served as President of the PTA. Susan was instrumental in forming a prayer group “The Gazebo Gang” for patients, family and friends of the Cancer Treatment Center in Tulsa, Ok. Now with a membership of over 500, the Gang proceeds their comments with John 11:25-26. "I am the resurrection and the life. He who believes in me will live even though he dies and whoever lives and believes in me will never die." A memorial service will be held on Saturday the 26th of October at two o’clock in the afternoon at Trinity United Methodist Church with The Rev. Dr. Larry Parker officiating. The family is grateful to the Cancer Treatment Centers of America for their exceptional care and treatment over the last three years and also to Hospice Care of South Carolina for their care, support and excellent service.
