AIKEN - Mr. Earl Jackford Overman, 83, died Wednesday, October 23, 2013.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM Saturday at Millbrook Baptist Church with the Reverend Dr. Chris Masters and the Reverend Bill Howard officiating. Interment, with military honors, will follow in Southlawn Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Earl Parker, Bob Gatanis, Stan Weisner, Marshall Chastain, Houston Brown, and Marvin Bishop.
Honorary pallbearers will be the Millbrook Whittlers.
Mr. Overman was born in Wilson County, NC, a son of the late James Earl and Lillie Mae Lamm Overman. He had been a resident of Aiken for the last 8 years, and was formerly employed as an electrician with Watson Electrical and Construction Company for over 40 years. He was a member of Millbrook Baptist Church where he was in the Heyward Sunday School class and the Millbrook Whittlers. He also served in the US Army. He enjoyed many activities: the outdoors, particularly gardening and fishing, music which he shared over the years with friends and family, and serving the Lord on mission trips and at home. One of his most favorite hobbies was eating Gerry's cooking and requesting special meals. He loved his family and treasured times spent together.
Survivors include his beloved wife of 56 years, Geraldine "Gerry" Ellis Overman; son, Richard (Susan) Overman, Aiken; two daughters, Rhonda Overman, Aiken, Monica (Scott) Wilson, New Bern, NC; a ; seven grandchildren, Lindsey (Jason) Griffin, Allison (Allen) Cantrell, Landon Waters, Preston Waters, Shelby Wilson, Hannah Wilson and Lilly Wilson; a great grandchild, Jackson Griffin.
