NEW ELLENTON, SC – ROBERT SIDNEY SMITH, JR., 55, beloved husband of Jennifer Dixon Smith, died suddenly on Tuesday, the 29th of October 2013 at Dwight D. Eisenhower Army Medical Center, Ft. Gordon, GA. A native of Syracuse, NY, Robert was a son of the late Robert Sidney Smith, Sr. and the late Betty Gleason Smith Maxwell and step-son of the late Leon Maxwell. He proudly served his country in the United States Marine Corps, and was awarded the Meritorious Service Medal. Robert retired as MSGT in 1997 after serving 20 years. He was currently employed as service manager for Tire & Lube Express at Walmart on Whiskey Road in Aiken. In his spare time, Robert enjoyed tinkering with cars and trucks. Survivors, in addition to his wife, Jennifer, include two daughters, Wendy Carson (John), Grovetown, GA, Shannon Smith, Grovetown, GA; two grandchildren, Meisje Carson and Eli Smith; sisters, Wanda Jacobus (John), Corning, NY, Audrey Burdick (Ronnie), Lindley, NY, Connie Smith, Corning, NY; brothers, Sid Smith, Elmira, NY, Danny Smith (Cheryl), Corning, NY; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Michael and Ginger Dixon, Aiken; sister-in-law, Amanda Duran (Alberto), Aiken; niece and nephew, Elizabeth and Michael Duran. The family will receive friends on Saturday the 2nd of November beginning at 3 o’clock in the afternoon at Shellhouse – Rivers Funeral Home. The funeral service will follow at 4 o’clock with military honors. The Rev. Henry Carnley will officiate.
