AIKEN – Mr. Robert P. O’Connor, Sr., 93, passed away Sunday, November 17, 2013.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, November 20, 2013 at 11:00 AM at the Shellhouse Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Grant Wiseman officiating. Interment with military honors will follow in Westover Cemetery, Augusta, GA.
Mr. O’Connor was a native of Nutley, NJ and a son of the late Hugh P. O’Connor and Catherine Hornbacker. He attended Newark College of Engineering from 1938-1940 and proudly served his country in the US Navy during WWII in the South Pacific Theater. After the war, Mr. O’Connor went to grad school at The University of New Jersey, Rutgers. After finishing at Rutgers he worked for the LaMonte Paper Company and finished his career as the General Manager of the Safety Paper Division of the Georgia Pacific Corporation. He was an Episcopalian. After moving to Aiken in 1986, he became a member of Houndslake and Woodside Plantation Country Clubs. He was formerly a member of Ridgewood Country Club in NJ.
He is survived by his wife, Louise Cook O’Connor; a daughter, Patricia Olson, Aurora, IL; a son, Robert Peter (Nell) O’Connor, Jr., Murrells Inlet, SC; four stepdaughters, Betsy (Kelley) Boan, Annapolis, MD, Lelia Chamberlain, Spring, TX, Mary Chamberlain, NY, NY, Margaret (George) Estrada, Fairfax, VA; two grandchildren, Eric Olson, Elburn, IL, Casey O’Connor, Murrells Inlet, SC; four step grandchildren, Sarah Boan, Christopher Boan, Dante Estrada, Layda Estrada; and a brother Kenneth P. O’Connor of Nutley, NJ.
In addition to his parents, Mr. O’Connor is predeceased by his first wife, Evelyn D. O’Connor.
