Mary Summersett McGuire

Mrs. Mary Summersett McGuire, 84, died peacefully, November 20, 2013 at her home. She was born in Columbia, SC on September 22, 1929 to Ben K. and Parneice Ulmer Summersett. She graduated from Columbia High School in 1946 and the University of South Carolina in 1950 with a B.S. in Art. Mary's life was devoted to her faith and her family. Her husband "Mac", her children and grandchildren, were the center of her life, and she committed her time and energy to loving them. She was a treasured and accomplished wife, mother, and homemaker. She was a loyal member of her much beloved church, First Baptist of Aiken. Her last 58 years were spent on Longwood Drive, where she enjoyed the love and friendship of many special neighbors. Mary was an enthusiastic tennis player and an avid Gamecock fan. Surviving are three daughters, Rebecca Koelker of Aiken, Mary Nelle Floyd (Kevin) of Charleston, and Dianne Lance (David) of Lexington, and a son, David H. McGuire (Mary) of Aiken; and nine grandchildren, Kate and Evan Koelker, Matthew and Jeffrey Floyd, David and Joseph McGuire, Elliot, Amy, and Will Lance; and two great grandchildren, Braelyn and Mackenzie Floyd. She was predeceased by her husband, Hazel "Mac" McGuire; a sister, Miriam S. McGready and a brother, Ben K. Summersett, Jr. Funeral services will be held Saturday, November 23 at 11:00 AM at Aiken's First Baptist Church with the Rev. Dr. Fred W. Andrea III officiating. Private burial will be in Southlawn Cemetery. The family will receive friends Friday from 6 to 8 PM at Shellhouse – Rivers Funeral Home and also following the service in the church parlor.
